# PlayaOS: membership portal for Burning Man theme camps

> PlayaOS replaces spreadsheets with a structured platform covering applications, dues, shifts, shelter assignments, and on-playa logistics for theme camps.

PlayaOS is an all-in-one membership platform built for Burning Man theme camps, art cars, regional events, and festival collectives. It gives your camp a private portal at `yourcamp.playaos.app` where applicants can apply online, members can manage their own profiles and shift signups, and admins get real-time visibility into everyone and everything — without juggling spreadsheets, Google Forms, or scattered email threads.

## The problem PlayaOS solves

Running a theme camp means tracking hundreds of moving parts: who's coming, who's paid, who's signed what waivers, who's working which shifts, and where everyone's sleeping. Most camps manage this across a patchwork of tools — a Google Form for applications, a spreadsheet for dues, another spreadsheet for shifts, email for everything else. Things fall through the cracks. Admins burn out.

PlayaOS brings all of that into one place with a structured workflow that takes an applicant from "I found your camp" to "checked in on the playa" without anything slipping between the cracks.

## Three perspectives

PlayaOS works differently depending on who you are.

**Applicants** interact with a public-facing application form, then track their status, schedule a vibe check, and pay dues — all through the portal — before they're a full member.

**Members** get a private dashboard where they manage their profile, sign up for shifts, view their shelter assignment, sign required documents, and stay connected to camp information.

**Admins** run the show: reviewing applications, approving members, assigning shelters, building shift schedules, collecting dues, sending broadcasts, and tracking who's arrived on-playa.

## Key features

* **Application wizard** — configurable form that collects background, experience, and shelter preferences
* **Vibe checks** — schedule and track applicant interviews with collaborative notes
* **Dues and payments** — collect camp fees via Givebutter, with automatic status updates on payment
* **Shift scheduling** — build a shift schedule and let members sign up or assign shifts directly
* **Shelter assignment** — track RVs, tents, hexayurts, and other shelters; invite shelter mates
* **Document signing** — require members to sign waivers and agreements before camp
* **Email broadcasts** — send targeted emails to applicants, members, or specific groups
* **Dietary headcounts** — aggregate meal preferences for kitchen planning
* **On-playa check-in** — record arrival and departure at the gate

## Works for any camp type

PlayaOS is configurable for any kind of Burning Man organization. When you create your camp, you choose a preset that tailors the default features to your situation — theme camp, art car, mutant vehicle, regional camp, festival camp, and more.

<Note>
Every camp gets its own subdomain and member portal. Your members never share a login page or dashboard with another camp.
