# Sign required camp waivers and documents digitally

> How to view, read, and digitally sign required camp documents like waivers and liability releases, and what happens if documents aren't signed on time.

Before you head to the playa, your camp requires that you review and sign certain documents — typically a liability waiver, a community agreement, or similar releases. These are legal requirements that protect both you and the camp, and they must be completed before the event. The portal lets you sign everything digitally so there is nothing to print or mail.

## Viewing your documents

Go to **Documents** in the sidebar. The page is organized into three sections:

* **Required documents** — forms you must sign before camp. Each card shows the document name, a description, and whether you have signed it.
* **Resource documents** — informational files for the current year (packing lists, camp rules, schedules). These do not require a signature.
* **Past years** — resource documents from previous camp years, organized by year, for reference.

## How digital signing works

When you open a required document that needs your signature:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Read the document">
    Select the document card to view or download the full document. Read it carefully before signing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign digitally">
    If the document requires an e-signature, a signing flow will prompt you to confirm your identity and apply your signature. Your full name (from your profile) is used as your legal signature.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Once signed, the document card updates to show a **Signed** status with the date you signed. The counter on your dashboard Documents card also updates.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>
  Your signature is recorded with a timestamp and linked to your member profile. You do not need to re-sign documents if you log out and back in.
</Info>

## Checking your signature status

Your dashboard always shows your current document progress (for example, `2/3 signed`). If any required documents are still pending, the dashboard also shows a **Documents Needed** card with a direct link to the Documents page.

On the Documents page itself, each required document card shows one of two states:

* **Signed** — shows the date you completed the signature
* **Sign now** — indicates the document still needs your attention

## Document reminders

If you have not signed all required documents as the event approaches, the portal sends you automated email reminders on the following schedule:

| Trigger                | Reminder                                |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------- |
| Initial reminder | Sent when documents are first published |
| 7 days before deadline | Follow-up reminder                      |
| 3 days before deadline | Urgent reminder                         |
| 1 day before deadline  | Final reminder                          |
| After deadline         | Overdue notice                          |

Check your inbox (and your spam folder) if you are expecting a reminder email.

## Signing deadlines

<Warning>
  Each required document may have its own signing deadline. Missing a deadline can affect your ability to participate in camp. If your documents are overdue, an alert will appear on your dashboard and the document card will be flagged. Sign as soon as possible and contact your admin if you have extenuating circumstances.
</Warning>

## What happens if documents are not signed

Members who have not completed all required document signatures before camp may be denied check-in or asked to sign on-site before participating in camp activities. Do not wait until the last minute — sign documents as soon as they become available in the portal.

## External resources

The Documents page also links to the **Burning Man Packing List**, a community-maintained resource to help you prepare for the playa. You can find this link at the bottom of the page under **External Resources**.
