# View and manage your assigned Burning Man camp shifts

> Understand how camp shifts work, how eligibility is determined by your travel dates, and how to view your assigned shifts and shift history.

Shifts are the scheduled work periods that keep camp running — from morning waffle service and cooking shifts to setup, breakdown, and general camp duties. Every member is expected to contribute, and the portal makes it easy to see what you are scheduled for and who you will be working alongside.

## How shift eligibility works

The portal only shows you shifts that fall within your on-playa window. If a shift is scheduled for a day before you arrive or after you depart, it will not appear in your schedule.

<Note>
  Shift eligibility is calculated directly from the arrival and departure dates in your profile. If you do not see any shifts, check that your travel dates are set correctly by going to **Profile** and filling in the **Arrival & Departure** section.
</Note>

Before you can view your shifts, the portal requires that both your arrival date and departure date are set. If either is missing, you will see a prompt to update your profile before the shift page loads.

## Viewing your shifts

Navigate to **Shifts** in the sidebar to open your shift schedule. The page is divided into two sections:

### Upcoming shifts

All shifts assigned to you that are scheduled from today onward, sorted by date (soonest first). Each shift card shows:

* Shift type (for example, Waffles/Bartending, Cook, Clean/Serve, Camp Shift)
* Date and day of the week
* Start and end time
* Who you will be working with

### Past shifts

Shifts you have already worked, sorted with the most recent first. Up to ten past shifts are displayed.

## Who you are working with

Each upcoming shift card shows the names of other members assigned to the same shift under **Working with**. Getting to know your shift crew in advance is part of the fun.

## Shift statuses

| Status        | What it means                                                                                                     |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Signed up** | You have been signed up for this shift and it is confirmed on your schedule. |
| **Completed** | The shift has passed and your attendance was recorded. Completed shifts appear in your past shifts list. |
| **No-show** | Applied by an admin if you missed a shift. Contact your camp organizers if you believe this was applied in error. |

## How shifts are assigned

Shift assignments are managed by camp organizers. Admins assign members to shifts based on availability, preferences, and arrival/departure dates. You do not self-select shifts from the portal — your assigned shifts appear on the Shifts page once an admin has added you.

## Changing or dropping a shift

If you need to change a shift after it has been assigned, contact your camp admin directly. Do not assume a shift is cancelled until an admin confirms the change in the portal.

## Adding a shift to your calendar

To add an upcoming shift to your personal calendar app, note the shift date and time from your Shifts page and create a manual calendar entry. Your camp may also send calendar invites for shifts via email — check your inbox for any shift confirmation emails.

<Tip>
  Set a reminder for your shifts the night before. Black Rock City is a big place and it is easy to lose track of time on-playa.
